I haven't been using the OSR label in a long time. I don't recall taking a stance on it in any particularly strong way at any point. I just sort of moved away from it a couple years ago because let's face it... so many shit shows.
But I'll probably start using it again as a hashtag because let's face it... so god damn useful.
OSR was an event. It happened between 2006 to 2012. Now it's simply people playing old D&D and applying the insights that had been gained.
ReplyDeleteIt's also a useful label. When I see "OSR" on a book I can expect to find some compatibility with pre-2000s D&D, generally. For certain, the label designates this if nothing else. So if I want to create a game book for that style of play I know I can use the label to signal what the book is about.
