Notes on The Pool

Found this pic of one of my old journal pages from c. 2000 where I was working out the details for The Pool. My memory is of writing the game in one evening, but I had notes leading up to the act. Here's the text from the image above:

The Pool RPG idea. New name?

Premise - Roll xd6 (GM names the amount, usually 1-3), then add xd6 from your die pool. Up to 9d6 can be rolled. Looking to score a "1" on any die. If you fail, you lose all the extra dice you gambled. If you win, you gain a die. The GM keeps a secret die pool for you. You never know how many are in it. You may only call on this cache when all your dice are gone. Then you may be "in the dark".

The actual game limits 9d6 as the maximum gamble, not the maximum dice pool. It isn't clear in this journal entry if I meant a pool max or a gamble max. I'm not sure. It's been a long minute, after all.

You can check out the game by clicking this handy link, if it's something you're keen to know about or if I triggered some lost nostalgia for early 2000s game design discussions.
